Sustainably produced, locally grown fruits and
vegetables are better for the environment. Fewer
synthetic pesticides and fertilizers on the food they
grow or the feed they give their livestock means less
chemicals in the environment and less in your stomach.
Less distance food travels means less damage to the
environment.
Buying local supports local farmers, which means that
money is channeled back into the local economy instead
of profits being sent far away.
Food that travels fewer miles from the farm to your
table and grown with less pesticides and chemicals just
tastes better! Remember the taste of a tomato fresh from
the vine? It also retains more nutrients when it is
eaten closer to the time it is harvested.
Its a great place to gather with friends and enjoy a cup
of coffee and a muffin on Saturday mornings while you
shop. |
